What Happens If A Disease Has No Cure?

With so many qualified doctors around the world, it is devastating to think they still cannot cure all known diseases.

Five years ago, filmmaker and TED Fellow Jennifer Brea woke up one night and realised she was unable to write her own name. She was diagnosed with myalgic encephalomyelitis, “a chronic degenerative neuro-immune disease described in medical literature as early as 1935.” It also known as a chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), the root causes and physical effects of which are still not fully understood.

CFS is described as “a debilitating illness that severely impairs normal activities and on bad days makes even the rustling of bed sheets unbearable.” On TED Talks, Brea talks about the difficulties and challenges she has faced looking for treatment for her condition and “ her mission to document through film the lives of patients that medicine struggles to treat.”
