Seduced By Fifty Shades Of Grey
I’m sure by now you’ve heard a lot of people talking about the long-awaited movie that has hopeless romantics/bookworms like you and me blushing fifty shades of red. If you’re not much of a reader, the grapevine has most definitely served you well, right? We’re talking about the erotic novel, turned movie Fifty Shades Of Grey!
At the risk of ruining it for those who haven’t gone through the steamy pages of the novel, here are 5 facts we wanted to share about Fifty Shades Of Grey:
It all started of as a Twilight Fan Fiction: Shocked a bit? Not really. If you’re a fan of the Twilight Series, than you’ve probably heard that Fifty Shades of Grey was first written as a Fan Fiction, originally called Master of The Universe, by E.L James who used the pen name ‘Snowqueen’s Icedragon’. Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele are the human characters of the popular iconic characters, Vampire Boy Edward Cullen and Human Girl Bella Swan.
BDSM is the buzzword: Bondage, Discipline, Dominance, Submission, Masochism… The pages of the novel consist of hot, steamy sessions between our two main characters. A lot of critics say that such themes in women’s fiction have been around for quite some time and aren’t really deserving of the pearl-clutching conversations the book dredged up. Perhaps, but wait till you see Christian’s notorious Red Room, the activities that take place there and all the toys he uses on his submissive. All we can say is, HOT!
It’s a Trilogy: Yes, if Fifty Shades of Grey had you all hot under the collar and wanting more, don’t worry. You’re covered! After the author E.L James re-worked Master Of The Universe into a trilogy, a virtual publisher in Australia, called Writer’s Coffee Shop, released the first part of Fifty Shades of Grey. It was released as an e-book and made available for print on demand in May 2011. Fifty Shades Darker was released in September 2011, and the third Fifty Shades Freed was released in January 2012. The book was not widely marketed or highly publicised, but gained a big following between housewife word of mouth and book blogs.
Casting of Fifty Shades: One of the most talked about topics in Hollywood and beyond was the casting of the movie. Actresses that were reportedly considered to play Anastasia were Katie Holmes, Shailene Woodley, Alicia Vikander, Felicity Jones, Imogen Poots and Elizabeth Olsen. The role ultimately went to Dakota Johnson. Many actors were considered for the role of Christian Grey including Alexander Skarsgard, Ian Somerhalder, Matt Bomer, Theo James and Christian Cooke, but it went to Charlie Hunnam. He dropped out of the film, allegedly due to scheduling conflicts with the show, Sons Of Anarchy. And so James Dornan was re-cast as Christian.
Squirming in your seat yet? Trust me, you are not alone. Since the movie has everyone excited, we’re dying to know if you have read the book, and what do you think about it? Share your thoughts with us at email@example.com
