Polo With A Purpose

The event with popular with celebrities, influencers and supporters of the fight against breast cancer has garnered local and international support since its inception in 2010 inception, is back…

The Cintron Pink Polo, Cape Town’s premier breast cancer awareness event returns to the scenic Val de Vie Estate on 5 November 2016. This year it aims to directly benefit Pink Drive, powering South Africa’s mobile Women’s Health Mammography and Gynaecology Units.

The mobile units travel to the remotest areas in South Africa in an effort to enable all medically uninsured women access to health services, including free education on women’s health, free mammograms, free pap smears, free clinical examinations and information on breast self-examinations.

Cintron’s Culture Of Giving

For the past six years, The Cintron Pink Polo has been about building the culture of giving, encouraging collaborative efforts between both local and international brands and, over the years, various local breast cancer NGO’s in the fight against breast cancer.

Simone de Wet, event owner and Val de Vie Events MD adds, “An exciting addition to this year’s event is partnering with Paarl local business, Fynbos Valley Gift Boxes to create the Blossom Box Boutique – a gifting initiative of beautiful boxes containing items which inspire, motivate and treat women bravely fighting breast cancer.”

According to CANSA 2014 statistics, there were more than 6 000 breast cancer fatalities in South Africa alone. Given this alarming figure, the Cintron Pink Polo still has a tall task ahead. With such huge numbers, De Wet asserts, “It’s important to have a holistic approach to breast cancer awareness, yet not forgetting the individual survivors and their triumphs. With initiatives such as the Blossom Box Boutique, this has been a great focal point for this year’s event.”

“I used to make myself beautiful every week. Before every chemotherapy session, I dressed up in my best outfits, put on my make-up and the whole ‘happy works’! To me it felt like the end of the world at first, but it doesn’t have to be that way. That’s why I started dressing up. I put on my most beautiful earrings and posted a selfie on Facebook almost every time I went for chemotherapy. I realised that I had the power to inspire others,” shares Felicity, a chemotherapy patient at the St. Stephens Oncology Centre.

Cintron Pink Polo guests will be able to select a gift, write a note of encouragement on a tag and place the personalised product in the gift box from Blossom Box Boutique, which will be delivered to the St. Stephen’s Oncology Centre. Patients will find the beautifully branded gift box on their seat when arriving for their treatment.
