Is Your Body Summer-Ready?
Servd Fresh has a few tips to help you eat your way to summer body goals.
Frontload your calories
According to an article in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, eating your biggest meals earlier in the day (before 3pm) leads to more weight being shed than eating the same number of calories later in the day. Keep your dinners light and don’t eat lunch too late in the afternoon.
Walk away from takeaways
Aside from the obvious warnings about fast foods, eating a home-made lunch gives you a better shot at shedding kilos than eating a meal from a restaurant or café. In fact, in one UK study, women who dined out midday at least once a week shed five fewer pounds (2kg) than those who ate food from home. Pack your own lunch meal and you’ll not only save calories, you’ll save cash too.
Smoothies make great options for a meal (especially breakfast) or a snack when made with natural ingredients. The most ideal smoothies are made with real, nutrient-rich ingredients that provide a good balance of vitamins and fats. Fat is excellent for is used by your body to burn energy so a truly healthy smoothie should have some dietary fat for the body to use in assimilating the vitamins. While on your journey to a hot summer body, remember that drinking a smoothie in the morning keeps you from indulging in empty carbohydrates like donuts.
To help your muscles recover after a hard workout, reach for a snack that contains protein. Twenty-five grams is the amount required to help your muscles repair and build, and the addition of lean muscle mass will ultimately help you burn more calories during the day. Something as simple as a smoothie with a scoop of whey protein powder can do the trick.
Banting for that summer bod
Low-carb diets like the Banting diet are scientifically proven to work effectively at burning fat and reversing many metabolic related symptoms including Type 2 Diabetes, high blood pressure, hypertension and obesity and other chronic illnesses. Banting has been shown to reduce insulin production and lower blood sugar levels to stimulate the body’s natural fat burning process. Low-carb, high-fat meals will help control your hunger, without the cravings.
