Deliciously Legendary Local Acts Take To The Stage
A lineup of legendary South African artists is set to thrill audiences at the fifty DStv Delicious International Food & Music Festival, including Hugh Masekela, Thandiswa Mazwai and Black Coffee.
The Witbank-born Masekela has performed in different jazz ensembles; he attended the Manhattan School of Music and lived and worked in the US. He toured with Paul Simon and was featured in the documentary Amandla! He has also released an autobiography, recorded numerous albums and created a series of videos on ESPN with his son, Selema Masekela.
Mazwai’s critically acclaimed second album Ibokwe (2009) reached gold status within weeks of release and her live DVD Dance of the forgotten Free (2010) won SAMAs for Best Female Artist and Best Live DVD in 2011. The Guardian recently referred to her as “South Africa’s finest female contemporary singer.”
Nomsa Mazibuko, Group Head of Marketing at MultiChoice says, “The DStv Delicious International Food & Music Festival is truly South African, and this is why we have become the only event to be a member of the Proudly South African campaign.” These incredible acts will share the stage with a fantastic lineup of international artists, Common, Imagination ft Lee John, Alexander O’Neal, Omar and Femi Kuti.
