What is Argan oil?
Argan oil is produced from the nut of a tree that only grows in southwestern Morocco. In fact, Moroccan oil and Argan oil is the same thing. The raw kernels are hand-extracted from the hard shell, hand-ground in a stone grinder, hand-kneaded for hours and first cold-pressed into the oil. It takes one woman three days to make just one litre of oil, which is why it is so valuable.
How can it be used?
Argan oil is packed full of essential fatty acids, antioxidants, vitamins (especially vitamins A and E) and minerals that promote your overall health by moisturising, softening and protecting your face and hair from sun damage. It is also free of harmful toxins and parabens. Argan oil can be used in the same way as coconut oil to moisturise skin, or apply to nail cuticles, hair and lips. There are plenty products that advertise Moroccan oil as an ingredient, but these are often filled with silicone, artificial preservatives, dyes and fragrance, and actually contain very little Argan oil. The organic version is far better and more versatile.
Coconut oil vs. Argan oil
Both oils contain essential fatty acids, which nourish hair and skin and are both free of chemicals. Coconut oil has antibacterial properties, whereas Argan oil has antioxidant properties. The main difference between coconut and Argan oil is that coconut oil is much heavier. It is also a little cheaper to purchase and more easily sourced than Argan oil. However, in essence, they are very similar with almost identical benefits and results.
