All Frills, No Fuss
If the mere mention of frills sends a shudder down your spine, we understand. Frills say fussy. Frills say overly feminine. Frills evoke memories of the dress that your mom bought you when you were eight, the one that made you look like a human cupcake…
We get it! In the era where minimalism and the ‘I woke up like this’ brand of Parisian cool rules, it’s hard to imagine a ruffle on your clothing as, well, fresh. But how wrong we all were. Forget ruffles of the past (yes, the trend dates all the way back to the 15th century) and look at frills with a fresh perspective.
For SS16, the frill has been been reinvented into one of the slickest, chicest shapes of the season.
But the frill of the future is clean cut, chic. A delicate and perfectly formed wave at the neckline of a structured top, a delicate detail on a dress that means business. It’s a constructed frill, one that brings a fresh and decidedly charming air to modern pieces.
A constructed frill adds just the right amount of daytime drama to your go-to boyfriend jeans, while a bodycon gets the Bad Girl Riri treatment with the addition of a ruffle and another key SS16 accesory – the choker.
Now let’s talk colour. While all shades are certainly welcome, we advise steering away from saccharine shades of pastels and pinks. The unexpectedness of masculine blues and monarchial whites perfectly balances the feminine nature of the frill. Looking for a print? Say it with stripes. The clean and fuss-free nature of lines elongates the look.
