A Lot Of Fiesta With Ford And Idols SA
I couldn’t help but jump at the opportunity when Ford invited me to drive one of its cars and attend Idols SA as a guest in the Pretoria State Theatre.
And rightly so… Who wouldn’t want to be seen in the new Ford Fiesta? The car is pretty, has driving appeal and met my expectations of an easy drive. The 2016 Idol SA who’ll win this car will be a very lucky winner indeed.
I couldn’t find the ignition lock-cylinder until I realised the car is keyless. I only needed to press a push-button to start or switch off the engine, as long as Ford MyKey® was inside the car. What a relief! With the car ready to go, I pressed down the pedal and shot straight to the City of Tshwane.
To my surprise, it didn’t feel as if I was driving a small car, the interior just has that ‘thing’ – that big-car sophistication thing you get, as it is quite spacious in the front and back, with ample boot space. The driver’s seat is a bit high and comfortable, and I felt somewhat authoritative when driving. I could easily tell it’s a car that provides a lot of comfort, even when travelling long distances.
The dashboard is very smart and everything within easy reach, but I found the controls to be rather scattered. It took me a while to get the hang of all the buttons and switches. The centre console isn’t a touchscreen, so I had to use buttons to scroll through different menus to connect my phone to the Bluetooth with the Ford’s SYNC system.
There is a USB socket if you want to bring your own music along, but I settled for the voice command and requested the car to play my favourite radio station, so that I could keep my eyes on the road. I hope the lucky Idols SA winner is as cautious as I was. Talking about safety, it was easy to see that the airbags were on, making me a little more secure in the car.
Safety At Heart
I’m about to get a little technical. The Ford Fiesta has up to seven airbags, two for the driver and front passenger, two for passengers in the back, curtain airbags and the last one for the driver’s knees. The Ford MyKey® adds as an impressive safety feature, you’re able to customise the car’s settings such as speed-limit reminders to suit your own needs.
Add to this the fuel-efficiency, making your money feeling very safe in your wallet! I was happy to sit back and enjoy the comfort of an extra level of safety around me. I arrived at the State Theatre and returned to Jozi in one piece, and thoroughly enjoyed the drive as well as watching the Idols SA contestants perform live on stage.
